One of my favourite investments to date…
Welcome back to the Studio Monday blog!
It’s been a minute since I last posted up here but am excited to be back with some insight into one of my favourite business investments to date. So on that note, let’s chat about what happened when I worked with a copywriter…
When I started my business back in 2020 there was an endless list of things to do. This included my process, building a website, establishing social media, the admin, the accounts etc. (the list felt like it was the length of this country). Being in the early phases of my business meant there wasn't any budget to invest in support for these things either. As a result I was deep in the very time consuming, DIY phase trying to do everything business related myself. This included my web and brand copy. At the time I did the best I could but I knew my copy wasn’t doing my brand justice - I wanted my writing to be vibrant and aligned to me but I just couldn’t quite choose the right words.
Fast forward to early 2021 on my first day ever visiting a coworking space I met Prasanna from Conscious Copy. She is an incredibly talented and value driven writer who has since become a close friend of mine. We worked together on a handful of different projects together where I learnt so much about how powerful copy could be and how to utilise it ethically. I wanted that magic for my own brand. So I made the leap and we worked together on my web copy and a few blog posts. She articulated the energy and the vibe of my brand beautifully through the words she chose. It was everything I didn’t know I needed.
Whilst this itself was incredible for my business, working with a copy writer also made a positive impact on a few other areas in ways I hadn’t expected. I thought it would be interesting to share some of the things that changed for me after working with this talented writer…
1. I felt more confident.
I see this happen with my branding clients - having an identity they are proud of and know looks good can be a real confidence boost. This happened with me and my web copy. I found myself wanting to share my website link more and more - it had gone from something I felt embarrassed to share to something I was actively linking everywhere I could. It made me feel so excited to drive traffic to my website because the copy was authentic, aligned and communicated everything I wanted to share.
2. My communication and messaging around my business got better and more consistent during meetings.
Having these beautiful sentences that were so aligned to me meant that answering questions around my business felt effortless now because I knew exactly how to articulate what I was thinking. And as a result the way I spoke about my business became more consistent. I was so excited to be speaking about my business in a way that I was proud of.
3. My client process got better.
For a long time I had wanted to include a few supporting documents in my process. Things like a services guide. With my new aligned copy these fell into place. I had been procrastinating creating these documents because I knew the writing would take me hours to work through but suddenly it was all there for me. Even just having clarity on the type of language and a few key words that spoke truly about my brand meant it was easier for me to write more for my brand as well.
So in summary - it was a really cool experience and something that I use every day within my business even two years later. In reflection if I had known earlier just how valuable this experience would be to me I would have done it sooner. Prasanna from Conscious Copy is absolutely incredible at what she does and I feel so grateful and lucky to call her my friend.
I think when aligned copy meets authentic design magic happens. Something big is brewing behind the scenes here and I can’t wait to share it with you soon!
